Why Moisturizing Is A Must

As busy as life can be for all of us, is it really necessary to take the time to moisturize our entire body? Dermatologists say, YES! And here are a few reasons why:

Moisturizing Keeps Your Skin Young

Skin regenerates itself often, being replaced as it becomes dry, irritated, cracked or sun-damaged. Some areas of your body are much more sensitive to these effects, such as your face, chest, ears, and neck. Moisturizing these areas is very important because the skin cells here replace more often than the rest of your body. They need moisture to stay healthy and replenish.

Keeping the area moist will prevent dryness, wrinkles, skin markings and sunspots as well. These parts of your skin are also at the highest risk for sun exposure, which leads to skin cancer. Make sure to use an SPF lotion to lower your risk.

Skin Problems Can Be Prevented with the Right Moisturizer

If you are worried that using a moisturizer will make your acne worse, think again! Acne is often exaggerated by dry skin. The key is finding the best moisturizer for your skin type.

There are many different kinds of moisturizers. Those made for oily skin, dry skin, sensitive skin, aging skin.  Acne can be a major concern if your skin becomes too oily. The buildup of those oil in your pores can leave your skin dirty and cause whiteheads or blackheads.

If you have oily skin look for moisturizers, not creams, which are made with higher oil content. Moisturizers that are made specifically for oily skin are a better option and will help eliminate breakouts. These are typically oil-free, fragrance-free, noncomedogenic moisturizers that you should add to your acne regimen.   Also, look for a moisturizer with exfoliant ingredients.

If you suffer from dry skin, a cream is a good option because of the oil content. Sometimes applying extra on your problem areas will help with flaking or over dryness. Finding the right one for you will do a lot in helping your skin stay beautiful and fresh.

Wrinkles will Run in Fear

Don’t want wrinkles? Moisturize! You can clearly feel a difference after washing your face and applying the right moisturizer. Our skin soaks in the moisture, plumps up and reduces the chance of wrinkles drastically.

Even wrinkles that may already be present on your face, chest or neck will be much more visible when the skin is dried out. Dermatologist, Dr. Whitney Bowe explains why keeping skin hydrated is important. “When the skin barrier is compromised, which is what we see when it becomes dry, there’s actually a low-grade chronic inflammation that occurs in the skin,” warns dermatologist Dr. Whitney Bowe. “Low levels of ongoing inflammation ultimately lead to a breakdown of collagen and accelerated aging.”

If you need some advice about which moisturizer is best for your skin, talk to your dermatologist today. If you have a moisturizer that works wonderfully for you, look into boosting it with serums that can fight aging and replenish your skin even more rapidly. These tips can help keep your skin glowing and vibrant for years to come.
